This is a question that I ask myself everytime I perform Revelation. I ask myself this question everyday for the two to three weeks of rehearsal prior to a performance. I ask myself this question every day of the year (actually Monday through Friday) when I commence to review the book in my head. Why do I put so much of myself into this?
Perhaps deep down I believe my wife’s answer to this question, that I am called by God do do so. But an answer more on the surface would be that I am compelled.
Over thirty years ago I began to read classic literature for the first time in my life. What I experienced became my mission in life– to enrich, encourage, enlighten and entertain people through the dramatic presentation of classic and sacred literature. With Revelation, I simply want people to see and feel what John saw and felt when he recieved this vision.
Performing the 12,000 words of this book takes me between 90 and a 100 minutes. There is a man who does a more simple recitation in 60 minutes. That’s 200 words per minute. My version is approximately 120 words per minute.
I make an investment into the presentation of these words so that people will walk away having experienced them, having spent time with the man who saw Heaven. It is an honor for me to do so.
